Component Testing/IC Testing

In the ever changing electronics industry, there is an increased requirement for electronic component testing (ic testing) services and component verification (ic verification). Retronix Certified offer electronic component testing services and component certification to aid in counterfeit component detection. This need comes about because of two main reasons:       

• 1. Counterfeit Components/Counterfeit IC’s

A counterfeit component is one whose IDENTITY or PEDIGREE has been deliberately ALTERED or MISREPRESENTED by its supplier, where:       

1. IDENTITY = Original manufacturer, part number, date code, lot number, testing, inspection, documentation or warranty etc.
2. PEDIGREE = Origin, ownership history, storage, handling, physical condition, previous use etc.

Sources of counterfeit components/counterfeit IC’s can be:
- Pulls from boards;
- Same package styles, reprinted etc.       

Retronix Certified offer various Counterfeit Component Testing Services/Counterfeit IC Testing Services to ensure the authenticity of your electronic components. We have devised a specific Counterfeit Component Detection Method, known as our Level 1 Authenticity Test, which comprises of various component tests (IC Visual Inspection, Marking Permanency, IC Decapsulation, Basic Electrical Testing) to help ensure that your components/IC’s are genuine, confirming your package contents.       

• 2. Defective Components

Although parts may have full traceability and are “GENUINE” there are still instances where the properties of the devices need to be verified as there may be defective components. This may be due to:       

1. ESD Damage;
2. Handling Issues;
3. Aged Stock/Old Date Codes etc.

Passing Off Components

In both of these situations, we are seeing sources that are going to extreme lengths to pass off counterfeit components/IC’s and defective components as new and unused, original components. Not only are components being copied/counterfeited, we are also seeing genuine test reports being falsified. The goal of Retronix Certified is to implement safeguards and component testing methods, to prevent all of the above issues and others which may arise in the ever changing market.
